Dog crate sizing
Size a crate to your dog's own measurements, not a breed guess: measure nose-tip to base of tail (standing) and add 2-4 inches for crate length; measure floor to top of head (sitting) and add 2-4 inches for crate height. Weight-band size classes run roughly XS (under 12 lb, ~18-22in) through XXL (over 90 lb, ~48in), but always defer to your dog's actual measurement over the weight band. Harness types and measuring
Y-front harnesses split into two straps over the sternum for the widest shoulder range of motion; step-in designs avoid over-the-head handling; no-pull front-clip harnesses redirect forward pull to the side via a chest-mounted ring. None of these are behavior guarantees — they're mechanical fit differences. To measure: chest/neck girth at the widest point behind the front legs, fit snug enough for two fingers under the strap. Carrier requirements for flying
Under-seat carrier dimension ranges vary by airline and even by aircraft type — there is no universal size that guarantees acceptance on every flight. Always check your specific airline's current pet policy directly before booking. For cargo-hold crated travel, IATA's Live Animals Regulations set baseline construction rules: ventilation on at least 16% of wall area across all four sides (upper two-thirds), solid majority side walls, metal door hardware, and a Live Animal label that must never block ventilation. Water fountains
Pet fountains typically run a 1.5-3.5W pump, hold a 50-200+ oz reservoir depending on size, and need filter replacement roughly every 2-4 weeks per the manufacturer's stated interval — skipping replacement slows flow and lets buildup accumulate. Litter box sizing
The sizing rule from feline-behavior organizations (AAFP/ISFM) is 1.5x your cat's nose-to-tail-base body length as the minimum box length — an 18-inch average adult cat needs roughly a 27-inch box. Enclosed/hooded boxes trap odor and make the true usable interior length easy to misjudge; an open box makes the real dimension obvious. GPS vs Bluetooth trackers
The big buying distinction: GPS+cellular trackers use a subscription and cellular network for effectively unlimited range, typically lasting 2-3 days per charge (up to 5-7+ in low-frequency mode); Bluetooth-range trackers need no subscription but only report location within roughly 100-400 feet direct, or via crowdsourced nearby-device networks, and their batteries last months to about a year. Chew toy durability classes
Chew toys are broadly classed light/plush, moderate, and heavy-duty/aggressive-chewer rated — but no durability claim is a guarantee, and every class requires supervision. Inspect regularly and remove anything with broken-off pieces immediately.
